President Bush Meets with Indian Prime Minister Singh
President Bush on Monday said, "I know you've been through difficult times, and America mourns the loss of innocent life as a result of the terrorist attacks. ... One of the issues that we've been discussing here at the G8 is the recent terrorist activities in the Middle East. Yesterday, in working with other members of the G8, we cobbled together a very important statement. After a visit with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Germany, President Bush traveled to St. Petersburg, Russia to participate in the G-8 Summit. During the meeting, leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union discussed continued cooperation on a broad range of international economic, security, and political issues.
Economic growth continues with 121,000 new jobs created in June. There have been over 5.4 million new jobs created since August of 2003, and the unemployment rate is at 4.6 percent, below the averages of the 1960's, '70s, '80s and '90s.
