President Discusses Line-Item Veto
President Bush on Tuesday said, "A line-item veto would be a vital tool that a President could use to target spending that lawmakers tack on to the large spending bills. ... The President could approve the spending that is necessary, could red-line spending that is not, and then let the Congress decide whether or not the President is right. President Meets with National Endowment for Democracy Award Recipients
President Bush on Tuesday said, "It has been my honor to welcome four amazing
individuals to the Oval Office. These four folks are from the
continent of Africa. They're here to receive the National Endowment
for Democracy's award, which is an award to honor courage and
fortitude and strength in promoting freedom."

On Thursday, President Bush welcomes Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi of Japan to the White House to discuss a range of issues including the war on terror, defending freedom and democracy, promoting regional security and prosperity in Asia, and enhancing closer cooperation on global economic issues. On Friday, President and Mrs. Bush will accompany the Prime Minister to Memphis, Tennessee to visit Graceland Mansion, home of the Presley Family.
President Bush recently traveled to Iraq to meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki and members of his cabinet. The leaders discussed how to achieve the goal of an Iraq that can govern itself, sustain itself, and defend itself.
