My Vision for Vermont
An old Vermonter once told me the problem with society is that too many people stick their noses into other folk's business. If everyone tended to his or her own affairs, the world would be a better place.
Our government was designed to "leave people alone." Once America stood for individual prosperity not intrusive Nanny Government. Today, government inserts itself into all aspects of everyday life - from education to healthcare to parenting - from grading maple syrup to cornrowing hair.
My vision for Vermont is for a state where citizens prosper and every individual is left alone to pursue personal and family happiness. This includes freedom of choice in all aspects of life - including education.
I envision a state where its people are free to enjoy the fruits of their labor without state government expropriating so much of its citizen's income that it leads the nation in taxation while it's school achievements steadily declines.
I see a state where farmers can work their land without fear of tax sales or being forced to raise shopping malls instead of cows. I see a place where farmers are free to grow old time traditional money, making crops such as hemp, without government subsidization or regulation.
I see a state where small business is left alone to create jobs and infrastructure, and free to market goods to the rest of the nation and world.
I see a state where government subsidized healthcare is not an issue because individuals and private groups have sufficient income to buy the level of individual healthcare protection they need or want - without restrictive state mandates or sneaky state cost shifting. Where people are free to educate themselves about health care and have unfettered access to pharmaceuticals without being forced to pay a doctor gatekeeper fee.
I see a state where free and open economic competition brings ever, increasing quality to education, jobs and healthcare and enhances family life - where people take personal responsibility rather then depend on politicians and bureaucrats for their life style choices.
I see a state that educates its youth rather than incarcerate them, and a state that allows parents to be parents, not just the guardians of state owned children.
The Vermont Libertarian Party TRUSTS THE PEOPLE. Those who insist on meddling and regulating our daily lives do not trust the people. They regulate the majority because of the possible ignorance of the minority. The Republican / Democrat / Progressive statist philosophy is based on fear and distrust of people. The statists are convinced "the average person" is too dumb or too immoral to be left unregulated and unsupervised.
Vermonters instinctively understand that personal and social progress only comes about through individual initiative - not by state bureaucratic mandates, rules, and regulations.
The Vermont Libertarian Party is the only political party that offers Vermonters a real choice for achieving real progress. A vote for Joel Williams for Governor is a vote for Freedom and Prosperity for all Vermonters.
