A Word from Joe:

ANNISTON STAR BLASTS ROGER'S OPERATIVES FOR ENVIRONMENTAL HATE CAMPAIGN AGAINST TURNHAM

The Anniston Star editorial page editor, John Fleming, said very eloquently in the Friday edition that the recent Roger's marketing attack against my record as a community servant on conservation and environmental issues was "unfair, low and cowardly." Furthermore, the column asked Rogers to do the 'righteous thing' by 'stepping up now and comdemning the mailers and calls'.

I have received 4 of 5 editorial endorsements in this campaign, an overwhelming show of support for the best candidate to represent the third district...the Anniston Star, while quite complimentary of this campaign did not endorse me. This call on Mike Rogers is from the only paper to endorse him in this race. This call by the Anniston Star is quite bold and shows that it is already holding Mike accountable for their endorsement.

No campaign is ever perfect. John Fleming and the Star editorial page has called our hand on a thing or two. Many people in campaigns do stupid things and go overboard or get emotional and say things they regret. But of late, no voter that I have met is proud of the venom with which the Mike Rogers campaign has attacked me, especially for my work on protecting Alabama's natural resources.

In Rogers ads he says environmental groups wasted $3 million dollars...Republican Senator and Roger' supporter Richard Shelby appropriated this money...another liberal friend of "Mike Rogers". The groups Mike has attacked may be suing the parties involved for defaming their organizations. The Alabama League of Environmental Voters that I helped found this election is endorsing and giving money to republican candidates.

Mike Rogers lives in one of the most environmentally damaged communities in America and he attacks me for wanting to clean it up, fight for justice for people and take that fight to Washington. Mike should be embarrassed that he is called on the carpet for this matter by the only paper to endorse him in this race for Congress. The environment is not a dirty word, but it may be a defining issue in this campaign.

ATTACK OF PERSONAL CHARACTER IS NOT PUTTING AMERICA FIRST!

When campaigns fight hard battles, the 'fur flies' said one political observer. But, Joe Turnham has been subjected to negative campaign attacks funded by over $2 million dollars worth of mail and tv distorting his positions, beliefs, and Christian character. It is time to stop.

As the campaign comes into its last two weeks, it is notable to mention that putting America First means putting your issues on the table as a candidate for real debate, not in the paid media. People are hurting out there and are demanding that candidates show sensitivity to their concerns.

As my own character has been assaulted in the mail box and on the tv for the last 6 weeks, I have gained a new sense of understanding for those that are tossed aside and so easily blistered by the powerful because they presented a threat to the power hold of the few. I intend to put America First in the US Congress, regardless of the negative consequences to me politically or to my own personal reputation. Name calling and shots to the political ribs do not deter me from mounting a campaign of hope and encouragement to the many people who look to leaders to 'do the right thing'.

Help me put America First by giving consideration to our campaign message of hope, positive ideas and a bold vision for our future. Thanks for all your prayers and for not believing or supporting those candidates that seek to gain power through deception.

Joe
