It was my understanding that my opponent supports the display of the Ten Commandments in our public places in Alabama. I certainly do. It would be even better if he and his campaign team would bother to look at the 9th Commandment concerning the issue of bearing false witness against someone...like in his latest ad attacking my character as a citizen (using supporters in the ad) My opponent and I have many different ideas, approaches to government, and even professional backgrounds. Mike Rogers is a decent person, has a beautiful family, and has accomplishments. I trust that he has faith and hope he values other people as he does himself...that would be the golden rule. Why won't Mike and his republican consultants try to win this race on the issues and not by assaulting my good name and character?
His assaults on my good name and character are energizing voters and lifelong friends at a pace I could not have imagined. I feel a little like Gideon did...surrounded by an opponent with millions in special interest party dollars, all aimed at my good name. Yet, the righteousness of Gideon prevailed and the hord attacking Gideon fled, destroyed themselves.
I will continue to work hard, talk about issues...funding of education, protecting our rivers/lakes and environment. I will continue to fight for a real prescription drug plan and won't let the republicans privatize Social Security. I will continue to fight to revisit NAFTA and Fast Track. Veterans will be treated with more dignity when I am elected.
I am ready for a real debate Mike Rogers. Quit assaulting my character with tainted money and start talking about rescuing the lives of the people that are counting on one of us as the next US Congressman.

SUPPORT FOR OUR PRESIDENT AND MILITARY AS WE PREPARE FOR NEEDED ACTION AGAINST IRAQ
When America makes a democratic decision to move forward with potential military action, we should move as a country united. I supported the passage of the authorization adopted by Congress earlier this week to empower our President to take action appropriate to defend America, our allies and interests as it relates to Saddam and Iraq.
It is important that Congress appropriate the necessary funds to complete the mission given our men and women in uniform. Our leaders should continue to find a peaceful and a purposeful end to the potential threats of Saddam, but when it is time to move against this dictator, let us move as a country with resolve.
Putting America First means putting aside partisan interests long enough to unite and take care of America's security. I will always take this position as a United States Congressman. Let us pray for our President, all leaders around the world and especially for our troops and law enforcement officials. Joe
