A Word from Joe:

CELEBRATE HARD WORK, CELEBRATE LABOR DAY

Labor Day is more than just a holiday. It is a day that our nation can celebrate the contributions of the millions of American workers that get up each day and go to jobs that keep America going. Hard work and fair compensation are biblical values.

It is only appropriate that we use the occasion of Labor Day to engage our nation in a real discussion about how we can protect jobs and enhance the value of "a fair day's wage for a fair day's work. Unfortunately, too many Alabama citizens find it hard to make ends meet even though they work hard, efficiently and with determination. This national discussion will involve Congressional action as we debate unfair trade policies, incentives for small business creation, and health care.

A good job that supports your family is an age old American tradition. But in order for future generations to realize that dream, we must invest in education, job training and the protection of American workers from corporate scandal and unfair trade.

As I travel the district on this special Labor Day, I am reminded that every job is important and that all honest work is worthy of applause. We all celebrate the men and women that do the work and make dreams come true. Let's have a Congressman that values work and fights for the rights and dignity of those that sweat and do the jobs of America! Happy Labor Day.

INCINERATION ISSUE DEMANDS LEADERSHIP, SWORD OF SOLOMON!

One of the most important issues facing the third congressional district is the safe and prompt disposal of some 7% of the nation's stock of chemical weapons stored at the Anniston Army Depot. Secondarily, we must assure our people that the long range prosperity and purpose of the Depot itself is protected. Safety of our people and competent environmental safety is tantamout.

There are many articulate voices that have presented salient points regarding incineration. The uncertainty and certain risk we face from both storage, transport, and disposal present many potent arguments about which direction we need to consider. Actual incineration of the weapons is set to begin in October or thereafter. The new congressman will inherit the awesome task to oversee the disposal while guaranteeing the safest process.

Our campaign has offered the only written comprehensive policy position on this dynamic issue. It is being posted to our site. It gives approval to move forward with incineration provided very specific demands for environmental protection and emergency preparedness are met. It stakes out our position as a guardian of this process for the public's best intests. It is honest and is our attempt to use Solomon's sword to dissect this life-threatening issue. May God give us the wisdom to properly evaluate this issue in an ongoing manner and to put America and your family's interests first, above money or political expedience. Joe
