A Word from Joe:
POLL RELEASED BY ALABAMA EDUCATION ASSOCIATION SAYS...RACE A 'DEAD HEAT'
Our campaign got independent confirmation of what we have felt all along...this race for the open third congressional district is a 'dead heat' between me and Mike Rogers. Figures released last week by Capital Survey Research (AEA's independent polling contractor) indicates that the race for Congress is within the margin of error with Turnham polling 36, Rogers 40 and 24 undecided. Excluding Rogers home county, Turnham leads Rogers 39 to 36.
The polling also reveals both our campaign and Rogers are unknown by almost half of the voters polled. These facts combine to say that the race for Congress will be won in the field and on the air by lots of activity in the weeks ahead. The poll also shows the district leans democratic overall by 2 or 3 points.
As good as any poll can be, we must understand that much work is left to be done. Many issues need debate and we have many people to touch in this race. Our profile as a candidate and our strong stand on the issues shows that democrats, republicans, independents and even libertarians are looking hard at supporting our campaign. Thanks for your support that has put us in this strong position. We can win with your continued support. Joe
WHEN YOUR STOCKS PLUNGE, RESOLVE TO GIVE MORE...
As I have been struck by the personal stories of loss of value of 401k's and asset portfolios of my friends and family in the last several months, I am still reminded of how blessed we all are.
I am also reminded of the temporal nature of wealth, health, power, popularity and the feeling that we can predict tomorrow. In light of the financial vulnerability that many of us feel right now in these days, I am reminded that what matters most is not what we accumulate, but what we give away. Giving means giving time, heart and resources to the issues, people, beliefs that we hold dear in faith, family and country.
As the son drepression-era parents, I have often been reminded that the resolve of faith and the American spirit to survive and proper can lift us all. We all need to be more frugal, mindful that waste and over consumption can wreak havoc on our country. Let's put America First by helping each other and giving, even though we may hurt right now. Giving sometimes cures the blues and often leads to blessings we never anticipated. It's all a gift anyway. Joe
