At the official lighting of the National Christmas Tree Thursday evening, President Bush said, "During this time of conflict and challenge, we once again celebrate the season of hope and the season of joy. We give thanks to our nation and to our families, and to our friends."

President Names Director of National Cancer Institute
"As we stand on the brink of amazing breakthroughs in cancer research, breakthroughs that will lead to new cancer therapies and, hopefully, to cancer cures, I'm pleased to introduce the man who will lead the National Cancer Institute in its war on cancer, Dr. Andrew von Eschen bach."

President Asks Global Leaders to Play Anthems on Dec 11
In meeting with the Prime Minister of Norway Wednesday afternoon, President Bush announced he is asking countries across the world to play their national anthems at 8:46 a.m. on December 11 -- the three-month anniversary of the September 11 attack.

President Commends House for Passing Trade Legislation
I commend the House of Representatives for passing legislation that will restore our nation's authority to negotiate trade agreements.
