Commissioners' Conference Statement
Salvation Army rescinds decision on "domestic partner benefits"
The Salvation Army's Commissioner's Conference has continued a review of issues surrounding extended employee benefits, which has included messages received from Salvationists and other members of our constituencies. This issue has always centered on service to people and we deeply regret the perception that the Commissioners' Conference surrendered any biblical principles in making the original decision.
The review has resulted in the rescinding of the policy statement - "Contracts for Government Funding - Employment Provisions." Today, November 12, 2001, the Commissioners' Conference established a national policy to extend health benefit access to an employee's spouse and dependent childrent only.

Thank you for all your support
Since a little over an hour after the terrorist attacks in both New York City and Washington, Salvation Army disaster canteens have been on the scene. In order for us to respond on behalf of the American public, it has taken the generous donations of many, many individuals, along with corporations and foundations. We want to thank each of you for reaching out during this time of national disaster. We hope that you feel a part of the work that we are doing from our canteens on site at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in rural Pennsylvania, along with being alongside those in our counseling centers who are reaching out to family members and relief workers.
Thank you from us and from all who have suffered so greatly.
God bless you.
Sincerely, Commissioner John Busby NATIONAL COMMANDER
