America's Second Harvest has played an important role in the September 11th relief efforts by getting food and water to those in need, while continuing to serve the 31 million Americans who face hunger everyday.

As part of the local relief effort, NYC affiliate City Harvest has been working with restaurant industry partners to help prepare and distribute meals at the World Trade Center site. Throughout its support of rescue efforts, City Harvest has continued to feed hungry New Yorkers who already relied on their services. In addition, the organization is finding and serving others in need of food, including those affected because their jobs were located in the financial district. Because of limited road access around the WTC site, many of City Harvest's meal deliveries are made on foot, using hand trucks.

Other area affiliates helping in the NYC effort include Food for Survival, Community Food Bank of New Jersey and Island Harvest.

As layoffs continue, America's Second Harvest will work to assist hungry people and those in need.
