AmeriCares created the "Heroes Fund" for the spouses and children of the New York City uniformed firefighters, police officers and uniformed Port Authority employees who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks. The relief organization continued its efforts by raising specialized structures built to assist the ongoing relief work at the World Trade Center and at the Fresh Kills Landfill on Staten Island. The structures will serve the Office of Emergency Management, NYC Police Department, NYC Fire Department, Secret Service, NTSB and the FBI.
