Thanks from Chellie!
Nov 11, 2002 -- We are very
proud of the hardworking, issues-based campaign we ran, our great
organization, and an unbelievable number of supporters. We are proud that
we never hid from the problems facing Maine and the rest of the country and
we always thought first of the people of Maine.
We have much to be proud of, and I am so grateful for the thousands of
people who donated time and money, who put up lawn signs, sent hand written
postcards to their neighbors, or knocked on doors and gave voters the chance
to have a say. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to be a candidate
and to be part of a campaign we could all be proud of. The mood at our
enormous election night party felt more like a victory than a defeat. It
left us all wanting to use the great energy we gathered and to challenge our
willingness to fight for these issues that will only be more critical in the
future.
I have no idea what the future will bring for me but I want to thank you all
for being such great supporters, hard workers, and good friends. Thank you
for being willing to fight for what is good and right. I plan to continue
this work in whatever way I can and look forward to linking arms with all of
you again soon.
My Best,
Chellie more
A Surprise Visit from a True Believer
Commentary, Lewiston Sun Journal
Nov 10, 2002 -- ...the people who work so hard on their behalf have little of substance to gain. The person who goes out on a cold, dark night to hang a sign on a darkened door at the end of a snow-covered road is, rather, a true believer. more

We hope she carries the state. more

Statement by Chellie Pingree on Paul Wellstone's Death
Oct 24, 2002 -- This is an unbelievably sad day. Paul Wellstone was my very good friend. He lived down the road from my grandfather's dairy farm and we have long shared a deep love of Minnesota. He was one of the first people to encourage me to run for higher office and he and Sheila have been mentors in the years we have known each other.

KENNEBEC JOURNAL/MORNING SENTINEL: Chellie Pingree has earned seat in U.S. Senate
Oct 24, 2002 -- Maine voters have shown that they need a good reason before they are willing to turn an incumbent out of office.
