John Sanchez - A New Mexico Success Story
 |
|
"Mom raised 8 kids by herself. We didn't
realize we were poor. There was plenty of love!"
|
John Sanchez was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1963. He
is the youngest of eight children in a family that started with
very little. By the time John was three months old, his mother
was raising him and his 7 brothers and sisters by herself in a
small two-bedroom home in Albuquerque's North Valley.
Even though he grew up in poverty, John was taught right from
wrong and learned that the way up was through hard, honest work,
personal responsibility and integrity. John credits this upbringing
with making him who he is today.
After graduating high school, John started a small business in
Albuquerque -- Right Way Roofing. The business started with only
a pickup truck and a dream, but became one of the most successful
and reputable companies in the state.
In 1993, the little boy who came from such humble beginnings
had his business named Small Business of the Year by the Albuquerque
Hispano Chamber of Commerce!

"Getting involved! I am sworn in as
a newly elected trustee for the Village of Los Ranchos."
|
Along the way, John married his wife Debra and together they
had two beautiful daughters. John and Debra continue to live and
raise their children in Albuquerque's North Valley.
Inspired by his great, great grandfather who was a territorial
legislator in 1860 and his grandfather, who was a Republican State
Representative in 1930, John began to turn his interests towards
public service.
In 1998, John was elected Trustee for the Village of Los Ranchos
by defeating a former Mayor. As Trustee, John distinguished himself
as a hard-working leader who wasn't afraid to roll up his sleeves
to get the job done. John has been credited with helping to unite
a community once bitterly divided.
In 2000, John Sanchez defeated 30-year Democrat incumbent and
Speaker of the House Raymond Sanchez in what was the biggest legislative
race in New Mexico history. John campaigned hard on the need to
end "business as usual" in Santa Fe. His election demonstrated
that his hopeful, optimistic message will galvanize Republicans
while simultaneously appealing to reform-minded Democrats.

"With hard work, I built my company
into one of New Mexico's most respected businesses. In fact,
the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce recognized us with their
prestigious "Maxie Anderson" small business award."
|
During his freshman term, John Sanchez successfully led the fight
for a state law banning the possession of child pornography. John
championed legislation to reform our tax system including strongly
supporting Governor Johnson's across the board income tax cut
and sponsoring a bill to provide a gross receipts tax deduction
aimed at keeping good doctors practicing here in New Mexico. Believing
in the need to create higher paying jobs; John also fought for
legislation to improve economic development in the state so our
children don't have to leave home in search of work.
Now John has formed a committee to run for Governor…to make the
case for a better way in New Mexico. John knows that our state
is at a crossroads -- will we go back to the tired old politics
that has hurt our state for so long, or will we fight for a better
New Mexico? John knows that with the right leadership and a lot
of hard work, New Mexico's best days are ahead of us, not behind
us.
And providing a brighter tomorrow in New Mexico is why John Sanchez
is running for Governor.
